Discussion relating to the London Underground.
The London Underground is a heavy rail metro network located in Greater London that first opened in 1863 and has been extended many times since. There are 270 stations on the network, served using a fleet of many different types of purpose build stock - the deep-level 1972 Stock, 1973 Stock, 1992 Stock, 1995 Stock, 1996 Stock and 2009 Stock, and the sub-surface D Stock and S Stock.
Services are operated along eleven lines; the Bakerloo, Central, Circle, District, Hammersmith & City, Jubilee, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria and Waterloo & City lines. There are also plans for the introduction of an overnight Night Tube network.
The London Underground is currently operated by London Underground, Ltd. (LUL), a subsidiary of Transport for London. Unlike most light rail/metro systems in the United Kingdom, it is not tendered, and is currently publicly-owned.
All information correct as of 4 July 2016.
