Discussion relating to the Sheffield Supertram and the upcoming tram-train line to Rotherham Parkgate.
The Supertram is a light rail network located in the city of Sheffield, opened in stages between 21 March 1994 and 23 October 1995, with a tram-train extension to Rotherham expected to open in 2017. There are also proposals for a new line from Meadowhall to Dore. There are 48 stations on the network across 18 miles of track, served using a fleet of 25 Siemens-Duewag Supertrams, built in 1992, and 7 Vossloh Citylink tram-trains, built between 2014 and 2015. The Supertrams are numbered 101-125 and the Citylinks are numbered 201-207. The Citylinks are also classified under TOPS as Class 399 and are numbered 399201-399207 under TOPS. The Citylinks are currently being delivered, with 201-203 delivered so far. None are yet in service.
Services are operated along three lines; the Purple Route from Herdings Park to Cathedral, the Blue Route from Halfway to Malin Bridge, and the Yellow Route from Middlewood to Meadowhall.
The Supertram is currently operated by Stagecoach, under concession from the local passenger transport executive, Travel South Yorkshire.
All information correct as of 4 July 2016.
