Discussion relating to Merseyrail.
Merseyrail is the name of the Merseyside commuter rail network which operates underground through Liverpool and then out into surrounding suburbs and towns. Unlike most franchises, the Merseyrail contract is tendered by Merseytravel. Serco-Abellio are the current operator of the Merseyrail tender, having taken over from Arriva Trains Merseyside on 20 July 2003. Serco-Abellio's operation of the Merseyrail tender is scheduled to run until 2028. Serco-Abellio is a joint venture between Serco (50%) and Abellio (50%).
Merseyrail's fleet currently consists of 32 Class 507 units and 27 Class 508 units. Services are operated across the electrified Merseyside commuter rail network, on both the Northern Line and the Wirral Line.
All information is correct as of 4 July 2016.
